Immediate Interest:
Our major speaker at the April meeting was Maricopa County County Recorder Helen Purcell.  Her office not only oversees and administers the county elections but is responsible for handling legal filings for the County.  All recordings including the 1st  recording on June 5, 1871, are available at her office or on the internet. She is responsible for the innovative placing of the very first Interactive Recording KIOSK, in Surprise, AZ at the Northwest Library.  This KIOSK allows one to record documents from a convenient remote secure location for us in the Northwest Valley as an alternate to driving to the County office in Pheonix.  She has maintained a staff 10th of the size of the Cook County, IL's, and her office continues to remain at the forefront of e-government and efficiency.

Candidates for various offices spoke briefly  including, Phil Lovas, Jean McGrath,  David Livingston and his wife Tracy, who intends to run for the Peoria School Board.

Phil Axelrod gave us Chapter2, a glimpse of old and unknow facts, the Rebublican Party, with his continuing "Historical Facts or Fictions" program of American history.

Did You Know

Charles Wilfred Harris, Colonel in the Arizona National Guard, served as the captain of the unit's rifle team in 1910. During the rifle competition at Camp Perry, Ohio, the Arizona team was the only team without an emblem of any kind. Colonel Harris was chiefly responsible for the creation of the rifle team flag that in 1917 became the Arizona State Flag.
Blue and gold are the colors of Arizona. Red and gold are the colors carried by Coronado's Expedition of 1540 to the Seven Cities of Cibola. The blue is "liberty blue" identical to the color in the United States flag field of stars. Since Arizona is a western state the rays of the setting sun seemed appropriate. There are thirteen rays representing the original "thirteen colonies. " The large copper star identifies Arizona as the largest producer of r in the United States.
On February 27, 1917, the legislature passed the bill to adopt this flag as the official Arizona State Flag despite dissenting votes and Governor Campbell's refusal to affix his signature to the bill.

Pledge

I Am A Republican Because.....
I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person's dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

Up Coming Meeting Schedule for 2012
Jun.23, 2012 (Corp Commissioners)
Jul.28, 2012 (To Be Announced)

President's Corner

Welcome to our website. This is your website so keep us informed as to what you like, what you dislike, and what you would like to see here. Some of the departments we are going to include are meet the members, Future events, and letters to the editor, the president’s corner, club news, and information on the Arizona Republican Party. Since this is your website, we want to actively solicit your input. We also welcome constructive critical reviews as this will allow us to continue to improve this website.

Republicans in Sun City Grand believe we are fortunate to live in this great land and believe we have been blessed with a unique set of individual freedoms in which all peoples in the United States can call their own.  You can be what you are, and become that which you are capable of becoming.

We are inspired by the power and ingenuity of the individual to succeed through hard work, family support and self discipline. We also believe in helping those around us.

Republicans believe in the value of voluntary giving and community support over taxation and forced redistribution. A smaller government is best for the people.

Like our founding fathers we believe that government must be limited so that it never becomes powerful enough to infringe on the rights of individuals. We believe that you know best what you should do with your earnings, better than the government.

We believe in supporting lower taxes because individuals know best how to make their own economic and charitable choices. Free markets keep people free.

Sun City Grand Republicans are supportive of logical business regulations that encourage entrepreneurs to start more businesses so our citizens can enjoy the satisfaction and fruits of self-made success.

We support our armed forces to defend and protect our Republic democracy. We are committed to preserving our national strength while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.

The Republican Party is guided by these principles as it develops solutions to the challenges facing our
United States of America.

If you believe in these principles you are a Republican and should join us in making your voice heard.
